Signs that your online date has a criminal history

One of the scariest facts in the dating scene is, are you dating a criminal? Today's dating is very different from the dating of old, with online dating being very common making it very easy for criminals with ill-fated intent to hide their real identities. Although online dating is generally safe with most people being typically normal, or good-natured who are looking for love just like you; Online dating can be the cesspool and breeding grounds for fake suitors, so be careful, and remember not all dates are created equally. We are not just talking submitting a photo that doesn't really look like themselves or fabricating their career, but more sinister matters such as impersonating someone else, or simply hiding their real identities. Experienced criminals are adept at abusing online dating sites probing them for their newest victim and looking to endanger mere strangers. Do err on the side of caution, and be very cognizant of your online or in person dating choices. Always meet in a public location, and do a thorough background check before meeting alone, and yes ask for identification and make a copy for your family. Although nothing is ever foolproof here are some tips to help you spot a criminal more easily when dating.

  • They have more than two phones. Two phones are usually okay as one may be for work and the other may be for personal use. More than two phones should make you suspicious. If you’re on a date with a person who has more than two phones, acts like a switchboard operator, and seems to answer the phones a lot, chances are they are hiding something. The question is what?
  • They use coded language. As if answering the phone during dinner isn't bad enough, if your new suitor uses coded language or their conversations simply don't appear normal, chances are your gut and intuitions are correct, so run for the hills.  Don't be desperate!
  • Their income doesn't match their lifestyle.   They claim they are self-employed flashing expensive items like a flashy Rolex, designer clothing, and expensive cars, but your online searches come up empty; It's possible that they may have a wealthy parent who is funding their lifestyle, or maybe their illegal proceeds are paying for these high priced items.
  • They have a short fuse or appear paranoid.  If your new date is easily offended, snappy, irritable, and is always looking for a fight, chances are they have a history of violent behavior and may even be abusing drugs. This is probably the most dangerous sort of criminal and if they display signs of these personality issues, take heed, and move on.
  • They frequently break the speed limit. It may not be obvious, but if your new admirer drives like he's Michael Schumacher and frequently breaks speed limits, they clearly have no respect for the law, their life, or yours. It's small issues that appear insignificant that can sometimes have the most impactful red flags.
  • They appear perfect in every way.  This is a tricky one because Mr. or Ms.  Right knows how to say all the right things, are typically charismatic charmers, and very romantic. Remember no one is perfect, so don't look for perfection, look for authenticity and honesty. You have waited this long to find Mr. or Ms. Right, so be patient, time will prove to be in your favor. If you find any inconsistencies in their representation, block them from your dating or social media site and move on immediately.
