Dogs or Cats - What are the real differences?

Bark vs. Meow

Dogs and cats are inherently different, but both are domestic animals belonging to different species. The cat belongs to the feline family and dogs to the canine family.

People are attracted to animals for different reasons, ranging from their physical features, temperament, and character. One major and noticeable difference between a dog and a cat is that the former are pack animals, and the other is more of a loner. As a pack animal, the dog loves company, and will never feel bored if one spends a lot of time with it. On the other hand, cats are loners and enjoy spending time alone.

When talking about the sound that they produce, dogs bark, growl, and woof. On the other hand, cats just meow or purr. So basically dogs are typically loud, and cats are quieter with more of a purr.
There are other differences as well between dogs and cats. Dogs love to stretch their legs and run, while cats can easily enjoy small personal spaces.
Dogs require quite a bit of care, while cats are mostly independent animals.
When looking at the nature of dogs and cats, the former loves to please you, but the latter always love to please themselves. Well, dogs are more affectionate when compared to cats. Dogs will wag their tail, and even their whole body, to show affection. A cat will only show affection by allowing you to scratch it behind the ears.
Unlike dogs, cats are lap animals. Cats love to cuddle and can sit there all day if you allow them to. Dogs enjoy pats on the head, belly rubs, and some cuddling, but they are instinctive hunters so they love to snoop around and explore.
Another major difference between dogs and cats is dogs are super happy to see you, even when awakened, while cats are a little grumpy and need a moment or two to wake up, so don't expect them to hop right into your lap.
Dogs can be excellent for security, and even if they aren't big enough to stop an intruder, they will be loud enough to either deter them or bring attention to someone nearby.
Summary
1. A dog is a pack animal, and the cat is a loner.
2. Dogs bark, growl, and woof. Cats just meow or purr.
3. Dogs need to be cared for, cats are independent animals.
4. Dogs deter intruders, cats will likely just run for cover.
** Some people prefer to have both a cat and a dog.  Whatever you choose, make sure you are educated on what it will take to manage the care of your animal, including boarding when you are away from home.
