Marijuana smoking appears acceptable to at least 65 percent of Americans

As of late 2017 according to the Gallup poll, about two-thirds of Americans believe that smoking marijuana is or should be considered morally acceptable in our current society. It appears that society has shifted its posture on this subject with only 31 percent of Americans disapproving of pot, as it relates to whether it is morally acceptable or not.

You might be surprised to know that some Americans now rate the use of marijuana no different than stem cell research, having a baby outside of marriage, medical testing on lab animals, abortion, or pornography. Most Americans surveyed believed that marijuana usage was not as acceptable as drinking alcohol, which 78% of those surveyed believe is perfectly normal and socially acceptable.

This should not come as a surprise that most conservatives accounted for the gap in acceptance of marijuana usage.  While many liberals support marijuana and alcohol usage as morally acceptable. These numbers don't appear to represent the liberal politicians however who have been fairly slow to be espoused to the theory that this is morally acceptable.

Whether you support or oppose the use of marijuana, as a society, you can expect a fair amount of garnering and voter controversy for years to come. The real question remains if legalizing marijuana will further compromise the moral fiber of the country. What about safety at work, or driving under the influence? The results have not really been tested at this point, and the controversy continues.

America's Red, White & Blue appears to be taking on another color in the patriotic scheme, such as Red, White, and Green.  The following states have legalized marijuana, the sale, and possession of cannabis, for both medical and recreational use. Vermont and the District of Columbia have legalized personal use, but not the commercial sale.

  • Alaska
  • California
  • Colorado
  • Maine
  • Massachusetts
  • Nevada
  • Oregon
  • Vermont
  • Washington
  • Washington DC
